Cornea Marie #1 Excerpt (My Nanowrimo Entry)

Image
Cornea Marie and The Dead Stranger (excerpt) Cornea Marie is not an ordinary girl, though she lives an ordinary life. A gifted young prodigy, she spends her days studying in a well-known university and her nights partying at the city's loudest venues. But her mundane existence is about to change when her beloved friend and mentor was reported missing; in his house the police found the dead body of a John Doe. Fearing that he is being framed for murder, Cornea Marie must race against the authorities in finding her missing teacher and prove his innocence. But as mysteries begin to unfold, she discovers that sometimes, even the people you know the most are not what they appear to be. Chapter 7             Cornea woke up to a deafening silence. The lights are off and for a brief moment she was puzzled by her surrounding, until everything slowly came back. She turned to the jalousie window but couldn't see anything o...

I wrote this in Reddit as a sort of exercise to help me off my writer's block. I never intended for this to be this long, so I'm posting it here as well since it's been a while since I last blogged. I saw my crush's pictures on Facebook today... sigh.. I met her when i went to Malaysia some years ago. A friend of mine who works in Kuala Lumpur let me stay in their apartment for a day, and that's when I first saw her. It was early in the morning when I arrived, and I was worried that I woke them up too early. As I came in, she and their one other room mate got out of their rooms and we were introduced to each other. I found her interesting for that moment, though I couldn't point my finger why. My friend and her room mates agreed to accompany me on my tour of the city, so they prepped up that morning, eating lunch and watching movies while doing so. They played the film "One More Chance" on the TV, and it's the first time I saw it. Coming o...

The Girl Who Cried Wolf, Pt. 1

Image
Outside the Baltazar mansion, the night is quiet and peaceful; oblivious of the desperation that currently engulfs its residents. Alfredo is pacing the house's front yard, occasionally glancing at his watch. Its two days before Christmas, and if he has it his way, he should be at home wrapping presents with his sons and wife, but here he is, responding to a call from one of the most prominent families in the country. After being shortly briefed about the emergency he has to attend to, he immediately summoned the one person he knows who could urgently solve this case, at least before Noche buena. A car halts outside the fences, and he glanced the security guard manning the gate who then checks it out. The starless skies and the cloud-covered moonlight isn't helping his already blurry vision, so he walked closer to have a look, and there he sees the white cab and the person he'd been waiting for more than an hour now. Cornea Marie steps down from the taxi an...

Poetry in Motion

Image
If I live at a time that appreciates poetry Then I'll write a poem every wake of my life Motions I make will be dancing with symmetry And the world that surrounds will be void of strife All my days will revolve around verses and rhymes And to people I'll share little things that I've learned And with this pen I hold unburdening the climb The cups of their souls will be filled with what they've earned I may not be as good as Browning or Marlowe My lines are not even in same vein that of Shakespeare By I will not be hindered by what I don't know For there's nothing more vexing than to live in fear If live at a time that appreciates poetry I'll rest well knowing my words will bring you to me

Ipinapaab...

The Caterpillar and the Moth (A Fable)

Image
Once there was a moth who fell in love with a caterpillar. It was the moment they met, and the feeling, though not foreign to the Moth, was instantaneous. The Moth began to get close to the Caterpillar until they became good friends. Each day, during sunset, the Moth would perch along the branches of the tree where the Caterpillar lives. The two would then talk for hours, until they both realize its midnight. The Moth would share stories of its adventures, beyond the forest, above the clouds, across the river. The Caterpillar would be fascinated with these stories, and it too will share stories of it's own: how it hides from the birds that rest among its tree's branches, how it watches the small animals that rest below the tree's shade and the other insects that flutter around. "Oh, how I envy you my friend the Moth", the Caterpillar said one day, "You fly from tree to tree, branch to branch. You can see the world from above, you can go wherever you ...

Gracenote's First Movement

Image
Gracenote's First Movement makes a lasting movement. I am a fan of Gracenote. Their music is reminiscent of the 90's pop-rock that I grew up with, combined with punkish-rock elements. They're not too heavy, and not too pop either, they're at the middle, and that's why rockers from both spectrum can enjoy their sound. The Gracenote, from left to right Alvin Ortiz (who, sadly, already departed the band), Chen Pangan, Eunice Jorge, Jazz Jorge and EJ Pichay First Movement , I believe, is their second album. The first one, self-titled Gracenote , was released independently some time in 2009. Since then, they have come a long way and their music evolved. Three years ago you might have dared call them a Paramore knock-off, but now they are Gracenote. First Movement consists of 8 tracks, the last one being an acoustic version of their current single, Amnesia . Kicking off the album is Knock Knock , written by the band's lead vocalist herself, Eunice Jorge....
