"Hello Charmaigne."

"Hello Sir!"

"So, how are the things at the office?"

"Ok lang naman po. Si Ate Lyka ang nagbigay sa kin ng mga gagawin ko."

"Ok. Good."

"Ah, Sir... Totoo po ba?"

"What?"

"Na, suspended kayo kaya kayo absent?"

"Ah. Yep, that's the case actually. I know its my fault, and hindi na dapat ako nagpunta ng office yesterday. That was stupid of me. Sorry for what I did, naabala pa kita."

"Hindi po, ok lang po. Paalis na rin po ako nun kagabi. Paano po kayo nakauwi?"

"I slept in the car. I think madaling araw na yun nung nagising ako. Then, Robert e-mailed about na wag na daw akong pumasok muna. I just slept the whole day, my head was throbbing."

"Ahhh..."

"You're probably doing something right now, I shouldn't have called, ah sorry."

"Ah, hindi, ok lang po, wala naman po akong ginagawa, nagba-browse-browse lang."

"Oh."

"Ahmm.."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"Sir?"

"Ah, yeah, well, sorry ... I guess that's it, ah..."

"Ano po?"

"No, ah, actually, I just, wanted to hear your voice"

"Po?"

"No, nothing."

"Ang hina po kaya ng boses n'yo."

"Talaga? I don't know, sira ata tong mic."

"Bili ka ng po ng bagong headset."

"Ha ha! Sige, sige. Ok. Ahm.. Sige, ahh.. bye."

"Ah? Ok. Sige po."

"Take care of yourself."

"Ingat din po kayo."

"You're late."

"Po? Ang aga pa kaya. Papasok na rin kayo Sir?"

"Nope. And so are you."

"Ano?"

"You're not going to work today, 'cause you're coming with me."

"Po? Saan?"

"I don't know. Anywhere is fine. Where do you wanna go?"

"Hindi ko po alam, teka Sir, pwede ba yun? Baka pagalitan ako."

"Sinong magagalit sa 'yo? I'm your boss, remember?"

"Pero Sir, hindi kaya..."

"What? You don't trust me?"

"Hindi naman po ganun, pero..."

"Look, they know you're with me. Nagsabi na ko. So if you don't show up on work on Monday, ako ang unang tatanungin. You don't have to worry about anything."

"Pero baka..."

"Hey, look. It's Friday the 13th. What's the worst that could happen?"

"Yun na nga po, di ba malas daw bumiyahe ngayon?"

"There is no luck. Everything is random."

"Pero... Saan tayo pupunta?"

"That's the problem actually. I don't have an idea either. How about you?"

"..."

"Oh, I know. Tagaytay. The weather there is nice this time of the year."

"Tagaytay? Ang layo nun Sir."

"No, it's not. Just 60 kilometers south, 2 to 3 hour drive. We used to go there all the time. Plus, you're forgetting I have a car."

"Ok lang ba yun, Sir?"

"Definitely. Come on."

10:09 AM

"Come on man. Don't fail me. Come on! Fuc-"

"Anong nangyari?"

"I can't believe it. Nahirapan na siyang umahon. That's just it! Malas! I guess we'll just have to walk."

"Ha ha! Sabi nyo di kayo naniniwala sa malas."

"Sige, baba ka muna."

"..."

"Kasalanan to nung bus na nag-swerve kanina eh. Di tuloy ako nakabwelo."

"Sisihin daw ba yung bus? Ang sabihin nyo Sir, luma na tong kotse nyo. He he he! Ang yaman yaman nyo Sir eh, di pa kayo bumili ng bago."

"I'm not rich. Who told you I'm rich?
Oh, wow, come here Charmaigne, look at that. Amazing isn't it? Never gets old."

"Wow! Ang ganda. Pwede kaya tayong pumunta dun sa mismong bulkan?"

"Of course. I've been there once."

"Talaga?"

"Unfortunately, hindi ata pwede ngayon. Nagtanong ako sa baba kanina, parang may volcanic activity daw ata na nangyayari."

"Weh?"

"Ha ha ha! Don't worry, it's not like it's gonna explode right in front of us. Well, that's the worst that could happen. It's Friday the 13th!"

"Huwag kayong magbiro ng ganyan Sir, baka magkatotoo."

"Ha ha ha! Sayang, di tayo makaakyat. Trekking sana tayo, kaso wala nga rin pala tayong gears."

"Biglaan kasi kayo mag-aya Sir."

"Ha ha ha! I don't know, I became impulsive all of the sudden. It's like I don't know myself anymore."

"Wow! Sunflower ba yun?"

"Yes."

"Wow! Ang ganda! Pwede ba akong pumitas?"

"Of course, that's free. Ang dami nyan dito."

"Ang ganda. Wow!"

"Don't tell me ngayon ka lang nakakita ng sunflower."

"Uh um."

"Seriously?"

"Oo nga. Wala namang ganito sa Maynila eh. Puro plastik lang."

"Don't tell me hindi ka pa rin nakakasakay ng kabayo?"

"Hindi. Sa merry-go-round lang ako nakasakay ng kabayo."

"Really? Alam ko na kung saan tayo pupunta. Sakay na."

"Saan?"

"Sa farm ng Tiyuhin ko sa Talisay. They've got horses there."

1:25 PM

"On my count, 1, 2, 3"

"Ay!"

"Oh, di ba, I told you, its a piece of cake."

"Aha ha ha! Okay. Ano gagawin ko, baka bigla tong tumakbo."

"Hindi yan. So, how does it feel?"

"Ha ha ha! Ang saya, para akong naka-motor, kaso ang taas. Masakit ata to pag nahulog ako."

"Ha ha! Hawakan mo lang maigi yung tali. Just relax your body, sit straight up, heels down. Wag kang kakabahan kasi kakabahan din yung kabayo.

"Ganon? Alam nya na kinakabahan ako?"

"Ha ha ha! Wait, wait, sayang di ko dala yung DSLR ko, teka."

"Hala, saan kayo pupunta Sir?"

"I'll just take a picture."

"Teka, teka, teka! Wag nyo ko iwan dito, baka bigla tong tumakbo. Hala, hala, hala, gumagalaw siya."

"Hindi yan, wag ka lang malikot, para di mag-panic yung kabayo. Sit still. Okay, 1, 2, oh smile naman d'yan, he he! 1, 2, 3."

"Ha ha ha! Hala, gumagalaw siya. Ano na gagawin ko Sir? Paano bumaba?"

"What? Kasasakay mo lang eh. Come on, we'll walk."

"Paano. Hilain ko ba tong tali? Sisigaw ako ng 'yah'? Ah, ano, 'tsik tsik tsik'."

"Ha ha ha! Hindi ganon. You squeeze your legs."

"Ipitin?"

"Yup."

"Paanong ipitin?"

"I-sueeze mong ganyan. Pag ayaw pa ring gumalaw, saka mo hilain yung tali. But not too hard. Yan."

"Aaaay! Naglalakad na siya! Ha ha ha!! Hala! Sir, dito ka lang. Hala! Sssiiirrr!!!"

"Ha ha ha! Nandito lang ako sa gilid, sasabayan kita."

"Aray, ang sakit sa pundilyo, aw!"

"Pundilyo?"

"Crotch. Ha ha ha!"

"Ah, ok, yun pala ang Tagalog nun. Sabayan mo yung beat ng horse para di masyadong masakit. 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, yan, ganyan."

"Ok, ang galeng! Ha ha ha! Akalain mo nakasakay na ko ng kabayo! Ha ha ha! Paano lumiko?"

"Use your legs."

"Paano? Di ba hihilain ko lang yung tali?"

"Pwede, but it's not good practice, wala ka sa kalesa. Kung kakaliwa ka, i-steer mo using your right leg."

"Ha? Paano?"

"I-move mo yung leg pa-ganito. Idikit mo sa katawan nung horse, tapos lagyan mo ng konting pressure."

"Ikakabig ko, ganito?"

"Yah, that's the word, ikabig, sorry."

"Ay ang galing, lumiko siya. Paano kung kabila? Aaaahhh ha ha ha! Ang galing."

"Now try it using both yung reins, or yung tali, and your leg."

"Ha ha ha! Ang saya naman nito. Paano naman pag gusto kong bilisan?"

"No you don't want to."

"Po?"

"Mahihirapan ka, di mo pa kaya. Practice ka lang muna ng lakad. Sanayin mo muna yung katawan mo. Tsaka dapat kilala ka na nung kabayo and comfortable na kayo sa isa't-isa. It'll take weeks. Unless you're a daredevil."

"May ganun? Para rin pala tong tao."

"Oo naman. And her name is Sonia by the way."

"Sonia? Aba sosyal ang pangalan!"

"Ha ha ha! Kapangalan siya nung first wife nung Uncle ko."

"Asawa ipinangalan sa kabayo? Bitter? Ha ha ha!"

"Ha ha ha! You're so funny you know that? I don't know the whole story. But ever since, bihira na lang magpunta Tiyuhin ko dito. He's based on the US now. Mga workers na lang yung nandito, tsaka yung caretaker nung bahay, yung kausap ko kanina."

"Ahh..ang yaman n'yo pala talaga Sir."

"Hindi ah. Hindi naman to sa 'min. Yung Uncle ko ang mayaman."

"Madalas kayo dito?"

"Yah. With... with Lalaine."

"Ah..."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"Nami-miss n'yo siya Sir, ano?"

"I don't know."

"Dapat pala hindi na lang tayo nagpunta dito, mukhang madami kayong ala-ala dito."

"No, its ok. Memories are good, it reminds me that what happened between us was real."

"Kung sabagay. Hindi mo naman siya kailangang kalimutan. Kailangan lang mapatawad mo siya, at mapatawad mo yung sarili mo."

"I'm not angry with myself."

"Pero bakit pinaparusahan mo yung sarili mo? Tulad nung Monday, naglasing ka. Yan tuloy, na-suspend ka."

"..."

"Siguro tinatanong mo sa sarili mo, anong kasalanan mo, saan ka nagkulang, saan ka nagkamali."

"You know, you're right. I keep tracing back, thinking back, when was the first sign, what happened or... Dati I kept telling myself na, hindi to totoo, or it's just a sick joke or something."

"Sir, alam nyo yung DABDA?"

"Yeah; denial, anger, bargaining..."

"Depression, acceptance. Sa tingin n'yo, saang stage na kayo? Hanggang ngayon ba dine-deny nyo pa rin sa sarili n'yo? Galit pa rin ba kayo?"

"No. I'm done with bargaining too. I mean, there was a time that I would do anything just to have her back. I even sued her, kasi naisip ko na matatakot siya, makikiusap na wag ko na siyang idemanda, on condition na babalik siya sa 'kin. I've done with that. I don't care anymore. I just want to move on."

"Depression?"

"The whole suplado thing, if you remember, you once told me na ang suplado ko. I mean, for a month, I don't eat, I can't sleep, I refuse to go to work. Sir Robert was telling me to try counselling, but I didn't. I just want to be depressed."

"Eh di good. Nasa acceptance ka na."

"You can't really put people's feelings on stages, right?"

Kita mo? Walang dahilan para malungkot ka."

"Talaga? Thank you. You always know how to cheer me up."

"Ha ha ha! Wala yun, pinapangiti n'yo rin naman ako lagi sa ofis eh."

"With my corny jokes. Ha ha ha! Way to go cowgirl!"

"Hi ho Silver, away! Ha ha ha!"

"Ha?"

Of Buses

I awoke at the voice of the conductor. I looked through the half-tinted, fogged window of the bus, and saw that it was drizzling outside. The road was busy, deceitful and unwelcoming, as cars veered to and fro it's intersections. I stared at Rachel, sitting beside me, sleeping, her head resting on her side, with her hair brushing along the scarlet curtains. I watched as the lights from outside brightened her full cheeks. She is beautiful as ever. I noticed her pale red lips, dried by the cold temperature of the bus, move and twitch, and so I let my eyes escape her view. "Are we there yet?" she whispered, half-awake. I let out a sigh, then turned my head to her, shaking it, smiling. "What's taking us too long?" "We got stuck in traffic earlier. As always." Now its her turn to let out a sigh, an irritated one, and I saw her breath as it came out of her mouth. "Do you feel cold?" I asked. She nodded. I reached out my arm to t...

Perfect Love Story

This is my perfect love story. We meet while I am having a summer vacation in Puerto Princesa. Or maybe Boracay. Or Pagudpud. Or Baler. You are visiting your family. Or maybe you are taking a break with your friends. Or colleagues. We are in a restaurant, a cafe, and I am ordering a drink or a meal, and you are doing the same. We catch a glimpse at each other, and at that instantaneous moment, we both know. We are meant to be. The world stops spinning. But only in our heads, because everyone around us continue moving. Yet, we don't care. Time stands still, and all I see is you. I smile, and you catch yourself smiling back. You break your stare and blush. Time starts moving again. From that moment on, I couldn't stop looking your way. Yet you keep avoiding my eyes. Of course you will. You are a proud woman, you're not cheap, you're not easy to get. You stand up and excuse yourself. You say you are not feeling well and you start walking back to your cottage. I stan...

Gracenote's First Movement

Gracenote's First Movement makes a lasting movement. I am a fan of Gracenote. Their music is reminiscent of the 90's pop-rock that I grew up with, combined with punkish-rock elements. They're not too heavy, and not too pop either, they're at the middle, and that's why rockers from both spectrum can enjoy their sound. The Gracenote, from left to right Alvin Ortiz (who, sadly, already departed the band), Chen Pangan, Eunice Jorge, Jazz Jorge and EJ Pichay First Movement , I believe, is their second album. The first one, self-titled Gracenote , was released independently some time in 2009. Since then, they have come a long way and their music evolved. Three years ago you might have dared call them a Paramore knock-off, but now they are Gracenote. First Movement consists of 8 tracks, the last one being an acoustic version of their current single, Amnesia . Kicking off the album is Knock Knock , written by the band's lead vocalist herself, Eunice Jorge....
